The idea of a partnership developed during the close co-operation between both cities in Pomerania. The focus of the German-Polish relationship is: contact between the citizens of both cities, meetings for young people, cultural exchanges, tourism, education, business contacts and co-operation, environmental protection, waste management, city development and health care. The first partnership interactions were mutual visits in both cities to trade fairs and business conferences, competition for up-and-coming restaurant experts in the Oder Center and contacts between the Uckermärkischer Bildungsverbund gGmbH (Occupational Training Association in Uckermark) and Koszalin.
